Coesia Group was created around G.D, a motorcycle production company founded in 1923 and taken over by Enzo Seràgnoli at the end of the 1930s.
The company shifted its focus to packaging, mainly for the confectionery and soap sectors, a manufacturing field that offered excellent development prospects. With the contribution of Ariosto Seràgnoli, the first automatic wrapping machine was launched, an innovative device that ensured state of the art performance.
The G.D brand achieved global success and the company became a world leader in the highly automated industrial machinery sector.
G.D entered the tobacco sector with the revolutionary 4350/Pack cellophane wrapping machine, becoming the unrivalled leader in the sector. This paved the way for the creation, in later years, of new machines born from extraordinary ideas, which completed the tobacco production cycle, supporting customers from the manufacture of single cigarettes to carton packaging.
From the early 1980s, the holding has acquired CIMA, manufacturer of power trains and high-performance gear transmissions for the racing, aerospace, e-mobility, and automated
machinery sectors; ACMA, Manufactures high- and medium-speed packaging machines for candies, chocolates, soap, tea, coffee, and liquid products; GDM, leader in the manufacture of converting and packaging solutions to produce baby diapers and pants, adult incontinence briefs and sanitary pads for women and VOLPAK, producer of packaging lines for flexible horizontal form-fill-seal (HFFS) pouches for food, beverages, personal and home care products.
Since 2002 the Group has been fully owned by Isabella Seràgnoli. In 2005, the holding was renamed Coesia. This was a crucial step for cohesion and sharing common values and goals. Subsequent acquisitions added even more strength to the Group: HAPA, specialized in on-demand and late-stage customization printing technologies that increase production agility while reducing costs and waste, LAETUS (sold in 2016), ADMV, specialized in designing, manufacturing and selling feeding systems, assembly machines and robotic cells for various industries; CITUS, KALIX (becoming one company Citus Kalix in 2012), producers of lipstick filling machines, hot filling machines for creams and foundations, filling machines for deodorants and tubes, cartoners and feeding systems; NORDEN, leading supplier of high-performance automated tube filling systems and SACMO (sold in 2018).
2011 Coesia focused on diversification by acquiring FLEXLINK, a leader in factory automation, and strengthened its tobacco sector position by taking over SASIB.
2012 Coesia acquired Oystar North America, a leader in packaging machines for food and consumer goods, later renamed R.A JONES.
2013 Coesia acquired IPI, specialized in aseptic packaging of liquid products in multilayer structure.
2016 Coesia acquired EMMECI, global leader in automatic machinery for premium and luxury goods packaging and GF, a provider of sterilization equipment, filling solution & inspection technology for the pharmaceutical industry.
2017 Coesia acquired MOLINS and CERULEAN, two global leaders in the Tobacco industry, to enhance its product portfolio in the packaging and instrumentation markets. The same year, MGS joined the Group, leading provider of packaging automated machinery and equipment for the life science-pharma, food, personal care and cosmetics markets.
2018 Coesia consolidated its presence in digital printing solutions with the acquisitions of ATLANTIC ZEISER and TRITRON, complementing HAPA (acquired in 2010), to create a dedicated platform focused on product customization. In the same year, the Group expanded its tobacco offering through the acquisition of COMAS to provide complete solutions and fulfill all customer needs.
2021 Coesia completed the acquisition of System Ceramics (started in 2019), specialized in the production of ceramic machinery.
2022 Through Hapa, Coesia acquired 100% of AMACO GmbH. The same year, Coesia finalized the agreement to sell IPI S.r.l.
2024 Through its company FlexLink, AMC (Automation & Modular Components) becomes part of the Group. In the same year, Coesia acquires a minority stake in PWR (Packaging with Robots).
